Online Ferrous Wear Meter (OFWM) - Transforming on-board oil testing for 2-stroke engines
Parker’s OFWM is designed to remove the uncertainty on cylinder wear rates by continuously monitoring the ferromagnetic iron (Fe) content in cylinder drain oil (CDO). The tracking of iron levels in real time will alert users to wear rates above normal (scuffing, cat fines) and give feedback on actual wear rates per cylinder enabling feed rate and cylinder liner wear optimisation.
The system is fully automated, outputting liner wear measurement to maximise uptime and minimise maintenance and sampling costs with a continuous information-flow, enabling timely and informed decision making.
System Overview
The OFWM provides continuous, highly accurate feedback about the wear condition in your engine. A sensor is fitted to the used CDO pipework for of each cylinder to be monitored – similar to how manual sampling is done currently.
- Up to 14 sensors are linked together on a network which is connected to a user-interface in the engine control room.
- Measurement: magnetic iron 20 ppm to 20,000 ppm (mg/kg)
- Sample volume: <10 ml
- Size: 120 mm x 260 mm x 160 mm
- Mass: 5 kg
- Power requirements: 24 V DC and compressed air
- Retrofitted around a vessel’s schedule
