Designing a safe machine means you must understand and comply with the directives and standards in your area. Here are a few standards to set you on the correct path:
The Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
The machine manufacturer must comply with the safety requirements of the Machinery Directive and confirm this by the CE marking on the machine and the EC Declaration of Conformity.
EN ISO 13849-1: This standard defines the use and application of safety-related parts of control systems for all types of machinery.
EN ISO 13849-2: This standard defines the validation of safety-related parts of control systems. This validation ensures proper validation is done to eliminate fault exclusion and unsure proper use of the safety-related components.
EN ISO 62061: The IEC standards are more electrical than mechanical in nature. This standard focuses on the operational reliability of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems.
EN ISO 12100: The designer must analyze risks associated with the machine and reduce by suitable measures. This standard focuses on the general principles for design – risk assessment and risk reduction.
