So how can we achieve this?
By inspiring the next generation of young women to enter the engineering pipeline by giving them insight into the industry, educating them on the variation of roles available and raising awareness of the routes into the industry. To support this, we have set students a team engineering challenge, assisted by Parker mentors, with a friendly competition on the final day.
Previously on the 23rd October, the team from Parker Filtration launched day one of Engineer Tomorrow. This took place at Huddersfield University, where we welcomed 19 young women from four local schools who are interested in a career in Engineering or other STEM subjects.
On day two we welcomed the 19 students to the Parker site with a safety briefing, followed by an introduction to our General Manager, Gregory Brickett, who talked through his own experience in Engineering and the exciting opportunities ahead.
Throughout the day students had a tour of the facility including our production environment and laboratory testing areas, then completed a guided workshop on Computer Aided Design. Next we set the students their engineering challenge. Time was taken to work through the concept and design, which focuses on filtration. They will continue to work on this for the duration of the program.
